Stonehurst Neighborhood 2016 Manhattan Day Picnic

  Manhattan Day 2016
Stonehurst Style...

It's the first weekend in June...school's out and summer has officially started!
Summer rec leagues have begun, vacations are being planned and once again...
Manhattan Day has arrived!
People all over Manhattan have gathered or are gathering with others
in their neighborhood to get acquainted,
catch up and just have some great fellowship and relax.
Our neighborhood typically does a picnic...
most members bring their own meat to grill and
a dish or two to share with everyone else.
Other neighborhoods may do a large BBQ,
watermelon feed, potluck...the possibilities are endless.
Thanks to Dillons for donating the Buns!!
There was a lot of meeting and greeting those that had never met before...
guys gathering around the grill and
catching up on the latest and greatest new mower in the neighborhood...
Kids of all ages enjoying ...burgers and dogs!
Thanks HyVee for supplying the Hot Dogs!!
Our neighborhood had a pretty good turnout...
There were lots gone on vacation, kids' ballgames and family celebrations.
But there were about 25 of us who gathered...
shared a meal and had some great conversations!
The weather couldn't have been any better!
There was a nice breeze, plenty of shade and not too many bugs
Lots and lots of conversations!!
Sometimes we just don't take the time to talk to our neighbors...
Yes, we may wave or say 'hello' in passing as we walk the dog...
But, do we really take the time to get to know one another?
What are your neighbor's hobbies?
What are their children doing for the summer?
How are you getting along with your new dog?
Any tips for that app on my phone?
There is always something to talk about...even if it's the neighbors who weren't there...
Just kidding!!  We didn't do that!
But, we did have a few neighbors who were busy with family at their house
and they stopped over to say 'hello' and catch up.
We even got to meet the latest newcomers to the neighborhood...
and shared one of the ladies' famous chocolate chip cookies
with him and his brothers...

I think he liked it!
At least he wore it well!!
So cute!
It was a perfect evening for lingering...
and snacking on the delicious watermelon and
yummy desserts!!
Rumor has is that the chocolate chip cookie recipe will be shared!
There was also a debate over which is better:
 Cookie Dough or Cookies!
The verdict is still out on that one...
may have been a tie!
And yes...some neighbors who came to visit and say hello...
left with cupcakes for her family!
Yeah...we live in a pretty great neighborhood!!
Manhattan Day was how we got acquainted with our neighbors
two years ago when we first moved to Manhattan.
It's a great way to meet lots of new people at once!

But, you don't have to wait for Manhattan Day...
or the next holiday.
Step out of your comfort zone...your little box on the block...
And invite one, two or all of your neighbors over!
Get to know one another, look out for one another...
Care for each other...
it's what we are called to do!
What life is all about!
Plus...it's a GREAT way to get new Recipes!
:)

Thanks to all those who came out to join us!
Hope to see more of you next year!
Who knows what will happen...
there was some talk of door prizes next year!
You'll just have to come and see what great
surprises there could be in store for you and your family!
